Shehata Oud ?
Hi folks
this oud is on german ebay.
The seller says Mr. Türünc told him it is a Shehata.
Is it one? Maybe one of the specialists in the forum have a look?
I dont wanna buy it, even if it is one, but maybe someone else is interested??
Greet`s
Marcus

Hi,
I'm not a specialist but owned a Shehata...
I have reservations for this one:
-the soundboard is not made with spruce of uniform color, I've never seen Shehata's like this (but this is not uncommon on cheap Egyptian ouds).
-the pegbox and the pegs are far from the clean work on Shehatas
-I'm suprised that there's no label inside ? Moreover all recent Shehatas have the bowl staves reinforced with paper strips bearing his name
So, probably a Gawaret el Fan oud in disguise ?But at 350eur. it could be ok if you can try it

I don't think it's a Shehata. Unless Maurice went through a "winning" streak some time ago when he made pegs out of clothespins, and oud faces out of
Wobble Boards. Anyone remember "Tie me kangaroo down, sport"?

Nor is it likely a Gawaret El Fan. Gawaret El Fan labels are indestructible. Frankly, the story about Turunz saying it's a Shehata is beyond ....
cute. The resemblance of the bridge is very superficial, it's a generic Turkish-inspired bridge.
I believe this is THE proverbial generic varnished-face Egyptian oud that can be purchased in Cairo for under 100 Euros. As Danielo says, and I agree
(not joking), it could be OK ... if you can try it.

Clicking the link you will see a text written in German. My name has been typed there. I will have it translated tomorrow and see what kind of a trick
it is using my name for €350.
Meanness musn't have been so mean so far in the oud environment but it is now. Why? Why? Why? and How???????

Only Google translation, but enough:

While I was sitting at the Master luthier Faruk Türünz, I'm friends with his son and Mr Shehata Türünz know personally, said Türünz me after he
has had a look at this more closely, that they would be Shehata. The shape of the bridge would be very typical, and it can be seen there. I then
checked this on the website of Shehata and saw that it really is identical. This would also explain the excellent sound of the Oud.
