Restringing Order...?
Hi, I restrung my Oud yesterday (first time ever restringing an Oud). As I'd been working on the nut, and treating the fingerboard with Lemon oil, I
restrung it from scratch. The thought occured to me that there is probably an ideal order to attach the strings, to avoid them touching in the pegbox
(as much as possible). Any ideas on this...?
Many Thanks - Mark

Hi Fernando.
Forum Search is your friend; the terms 'restringing' 'string order' 'peg order' etc. are his dutiful minions.

Hi,
with the traditional pegs arrangement it is perfectly possible to avoid string crossings in the pegbox. It helps to have to peg holes at the right
place, but the trick is to adjust the lateral position of each string using the winding around the pegs. The drawback is that it is not possible on
most strings to use the windings to put pressure on the pegs - which may be a problem if the pegs are too loose.

Yes, I see. Having the peg hole in the right place must be critical to avoid strings touching. It would be good to have a pictoral/measurement guide
to the best position on each peg for the hole to be placed relative to the edge of the pegbox.
If I ever get to the end of this, I'll try to do one. Also, a stringing order to go with it. I suppose though, it would change depending on the
individual pegbox. Maybe a rough guide will be possible. More stuff to learn....
Thanks - Mark
