Can I fix this myself?
Somewhere along the way, this oud got damaged, apparently during shipping. The peg bx cracked off, and a couple of the ribs are separating slightly.
I am not too concerned about the ribs, because I know I can get some wood glue in there, duct tape it closed over night, and it will probably be fine
(although, unfortunately, one of the ebony purfling strips along the separation is broken at two spots).
But, the peg box is cracked off. It seems like it should be simple enough, but I need to run it past you guys, first. Can I just use some
carpenters/wood glue, and somehow vice it closed overnight (I am not really sure how I could vice it, but I can find a way). Will this work?

I think a piece of wood we put between two sides of pegbox is split into two pieces one is on the neck. If that is the case, gently try to get it out.
if the glue dont give up then cut and scrape the piece. Now you have to make a new piece to fit two cheeks of the pegbox as well as back lid. It is
little hard but I am sure you can do it. After glueing the new piece with carpenter wood glue. Let it set then you have to fit the pegbox to its place
on the neck which you have already cleaned. Take your time to fit it as close as possible then glue it. I usually put a painter's tape between beak
(very top of pegbox) and all the way back of the bowl. Then I clamp it to the neck using a simple hand clamp.
OR YOU CAN JUST PUT THE PEGBOX WITH SOME GLUE IN ITS PLACE AS IS.
I don't see the nut. If you have it just glue it back to its place.

Thanks, Dincer. I took choice two. If it doesn't work, I can go ahead and do the other option.
You are exactly right--it was that piece of wood that was split in two. It seems to come together perfectly, though, so I hope that the glue and set
approach will work. It is clamped now, and I will find out tomorrow. I also brought the ribs together with carpenters glue, and I think that that
will be fine.
I do have the nut, and I will glue that in place tomorrow. Then, if I am lucky, maybe I can hear the oud in a couple of days. I will let you
know.
I am glad that the nut was not lost--I made one out of bone a couple of weeks ago, and it must have taken me well over two hours!

OK, sound file is done--nothing special. I am just happy to be able to play this oud. Sounds nice, and, in the hands of a real player, would sound
much better than somebody with my limited abilities. I am going to put it in the members sound clips section.
