recording music
Hello folks
Could anyone advise me on the sort of microphone I should use to record my oud playing so I can submit it to the forum. I'll record onto the PC so it
would also be useful to know of good simple (free?) software I can use.
The sound quality is my main aim - I don't want to sound like Iam underwater or in a tunnel.
Cheers
Leon

A small condenser mic will work best for acoustic instruments, but I think you'll find that the hardware interface (sound card/pre-amp) will make more
difference than the microphone.
Try Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) for free (Windows) recording software. You can do a search on audacity in the forum for further discussion.
There are also a bunch of discussion threads on microphones, recording, etc.
Happy hunting!

True, your sound card will affect the quality of the sound recorded regardless of your input device.

Leon,
Audacity is a great choice for recording software. Its free and very easy to use.
As for hardware, I use M-Audio pre-usb audio interface. You can find it here:

MXL has a very low priced condenser mic that you can check out here:
