Machine head
Hello Fine people
This may sound straing to most of you but I have actually done it.
I had a syrian oud that had an amazing sound to it.. you may think it is a sound coming from a studio if you guys listen to it without seeing it. I
started using it in professional recording but I noticed that it goes out of tune no matter how perfect I tune it . so I though of changing the pegs
to a machine heads that comes with most expensive guitars. They made the oud a bit heavy but it stays in tune for a lot longer and it does help in
recording where other digital instruments are involved. Maybe there are a ready made ouds with guitar keys but I did not look.
Thank you all

hi Emad,
Haluk Eryadin ( see his site at http://www.eraydinsazevi.com.tr/) offers machine heads as an option on his ouds...

Hi Emad,
i do play, but my ouds have regular pegs - i just think they look too weird with guitar machines on 'em,
im a big fan of pegs - Ive had flamenco guitars with traditional pegs, tho my current one doesnt. they balance better, and might possibly add to the
tone slightly by having all wood - but thats probably just a weird fantasy, lol...
great playing on the taqsim page, btw....

Machine heads on ouds have been around for while. I heard first about it from some Tunisians about 10 years ago.
Not a good thing on an oud...
Best wishes

Machine tumers
Gunaydin!
I have had a chance to play a Moroccan 'ud that had machine tuners.
What a beast - the (relatively) massive weight of the tuners made the 'ud difficult to hold.
Getting your pegs tuned would be my suggestion

Check out these four similar ouds. Same woods and maker of all four ouds, but one with a tradional pegbox and the other with guitar tuners. My
preference is traditional for sure.

Schaller Adjustable Pegs
Hello,
Schaller Adjustable Pegs might be the solution. Here is a link to one supplier http://www.internationalluthiers.com/violinparts.php Scroll down to the peggs. Any one tried these pegs?

Also look up an old post about "pegheds". Very nice but expensive.

Hi Jameel,
Agree. Found these "pegheds" I think a year ago but as everyone has commented, the price seemed prohibitive.
Well fitted tuning pegs seem to work very well in my immitation Ali Khaleefeh oud. I just used a violin reamer and a peg shaper to fit them along
with a little bit of peg soap. I also think new strings have to be tuned a few times before they maintain their tuning. I think this is the case
regardless of the type tuning system, it has to do with the loop at the bridge and the slight total tension change as other strings get tuned.

The thing I loved most about the oud was its pegbox... Just doesn't look right with other designs...

I have a cheap oud that I had a violin repairman fit with viola pegs. It tunes up beautifully, very smooth and holds its tuning.
