What do you think of these ouds

Hello,
I have a oud and I want to buy a better one now. I look after these models (egyptian ouds).
What do you think of the following (I put the link in order you see the shop/description/price):
http://www.mediterranean-musicshop.com/product_info.php?cPath=74_33...
http://larkinthemorning.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_OUD009_A_Egyptian+Ma...

As you can see, these models have floating bridge. I play guitar, violin and cello and I'm convinced that the floating bridge is excellent for the sustain (the strings and instrument body are better coupled).

Thank you in advance for your answers. Don't hesitate to debate on the interest of the floating bridge.

ignore the lark in the morning site. do not even think about.

the ones that are linked to the mediteranean site are ones made by nazih ghadban. first i seen the same models on his personal website that he uses to sell direct so im not sure if he uses various means of selling methods. but if you want a nazih ghadban I would assume its most safe to buy directly from the maker himself. his website is oudnazihghadban.com.

Also look into samir azarof syria , i have a floating bridge by him.

yaroub fadel of iraq, who makes mainly floating bridge ouds and maurice shehata of egypt.

Thank you for your answer.

I watched http://www.oudnazihghadban.com, but it doesn't offer an online order service (just a email for general purpose in the contact menu).
Do you know an Internet store where I can order that kind of models ?

Ordering an instrument from the internet based upon pictures can be a game of dice. Ordering an oud from someone because they have an easier online ordering will not get you the best instrument.
Mr.Ghadban's floating bridge ouds are great and he is very reliable so I would order something from him. But check around on the internet. Fadels look like they would be good but I can't really tell from the pictures.
I am a great supporter of Lark in the Morning but their floating bridge oud that I played wasn't that good.
Good hunting. D.L.

I agree with Palestine48, Text buy an oud from Lark in The Morning. A friend of mine did that exact thing and returned it after a week because it was flawed in more ways than one. It should be noted that my friend didn't know too much about ouds and thought he was buying a good product. So, consider yourself warned.

Thank you.
It's not easy for me to take a decision. In France it's impossible to find a shop where I can try an oud....so it's impossible for me to know which one is good, bad or better than the other for the same price.
I think I will write to Maurice Shehata to check his prices.
Do you know if he proposes floating bridge of good quality for 600 $ US ?

dude- just email nazih- he's a great person to deal with and he responds promptly: I have personal experience...

also- never buy something from someone who doesn't know what the hell they're selling: quote from lark in the morning-

"In the Bashir style, the lowest string can be added where the 1st course would be; in another soloist style, a thinner string can be used for an extended high range. With hard case."

hmmmmm..... on a 6-course oud? interesting.

As passionate oud players, we all have our favourite makers, so the question,"Who should I buy from?" will always attract varying opinions.

Spend a little time searching these forums, looking at pictures and reading what others have written.

You may also wish to visit the websites of some of the makers.
Here are some links to some of the more well known maker's websites, in alphabetical order.

Bonjour.

suz_i_dil on this forum had three or four floating bridge ouds for selling, 2 or 3 weeks ago.
He is located half time in Bordeaux and Pau. May be you could contact him ( see the list forum members ) and have a look to his ouds if you don't stay far from Sud Ouest.
A bientôt.
Francis

Samir Azar

Thanks for the heads up about Samir's new website. I have a buzuk of his and have ordered a 13 string floating bridge oud. I think he's a great builder and a great person to work with.
