Some tips from a newbie

I am a guitarist but a total newbie on the Oud. I just want to share some tips that helped ‎me with the oud (given the lack of frets that I was used to in playing the guitar).‎

‎1-‎I downloaded a freeware windows based tuner that tells you the notes you’re ‎playing with sufficient speed (some of these programs are quite slow, but I use ‎this program for testing Neys, Shakuhachi’s and Bansuri flutes with good results). ‎This program helped me fine-tune my playing as well aided me in getting a sense ‎of the distances between note placements on the fingerboard. You can ‎downloaded it here:‎
http://www1.ocn.ne.jp/~tuner/tuner_e.html its called the Shaku8Tuner_E.zip

‎2-‎Then I downloaded oud tutor. This program tells you the notes of the Maqams on ‎the fingerboard. http://www.pro.com.eg/oudtutor/‎
‎3-‎So when I practice Maqams I open both programs at the same time. After a few ‎hours I had some sense of the fingering positions.

I just hope this helps newbies like ‎myself.‎
