Here is a trimmed loop of a 10/8 Samai @ 100 bpm.
Paste this end-to-end several times in an audio program and it may provide some help for your practice.
The dum is on beats 1, 6 & 7.

Regards,

Greg

The sound file Greg posted is the way I learned Samai. What makes the rhythm (for me anyway) is the down beat on 1 6 & 7.

You may want to try alternating with this for a little variation.

D tk t T tk D D S tk tk

And if you want a happy tabla player let them roll a littleā€¦ Only if it fits the piece of music of course <g>. I tried putting the beats in but the forum code won't keep the spacing. The Doums are still 1 6 & 7.

D tkt KT tkt KT D D S tkt TK

Also if you have quicktime, open the mp3 file using quicktime and press command+k, you will get the controls. Use command+L to loop it, and you can alter the speed and/or pitch separately!

Despite the doum on 6 & 7, the strong beat is 8, the tek.
1 and 4 are the other strong beats.
