Holding the oud - your oud too small, your body too big?

Hi there, recently Marcus raised the issue of the oud holding position and especially the size of the oud.

Now, nobody would change the oud just to have the right size, and maybe the holding problem wouldn't be solved by that anyway, any mybe three other problems would come up ...

As I recently got an Ergoplay guitar holding aid and was totaly convinced how useful that is for guitar playing, I thought that by a little changes one also could use it for oud to solve posture issues.

So I ordered another one (because it needs some bending and that is not suitable for guitar playing) and adjusted it so that it stays put on the oud.

It's really nice to play woth, though I didn't have big posture problems in the first play. But it certainly improves the position. It has two other merits:

- the oud stays more stable in the position you've chosen

- the sounds is more free, as the contact with the body and by that the damping is less.

Really worth trying. In Germany it's 18 Euros through http://www.thomann.de.

Se the pics attached

best wishes

Robert

Neat device Robert. I may try it. I certainly prefer having both feet on the floor and therefore dont like using a footstool. Thanks for sharing this. C

Exactly!
I always hated it to use this footstool - and now I'm so glad I can play guitar and oud with both feet on the ground. I was especially surprised that tha ergoplay solves not only posture issues but also stability issues as well.

Thanks for your commentary, Charlie

Hi Robert :wavey:

really looks like worth trying it. I think I`ll buy one and let you know if it works for me.

Hi guys!
Actually what I do is to put a book (2 cm thick) between me and the oud and the problem is solved, especially considering my oud is a bit small (iraqi oud).
