I'm a bit confused

A conductor of a community choir contacted me and asked me if I can perform a oud piece.. for some human rights community charity event etc....

I youtubed the thing and this is what I found... The guy is not the best player in the world, but can anyone tell me what maqam is this on(if any).
In the middle (3/4 of the video ) it gets a bit more lively.. From what I saw on the sheet music its La and Si flat and MI half-flat ...

Anyone make anything of this?

Hmmm, I wish I could help, but to my uneducated ears it just sounds all over the place!

The intonation in the first part seems to bear no relation to the rest of it:shrug: or maybe it's just so far advanced I just don't get it;)

I'm glad it's not me who has to do this! I wouldn't feel at all comfortable with it.

best of luck!

Fadi,
just play from your heart. Any taqassim you will play will be 100 times better then trying to learn this piece.

plus I know you will pronounce Iraq properly.

Lol,

Its not life threatning haha...
Just wanted to see if I was the only one who wasn't "getting" this piece and that is was all over the place at the beginning !

Yeah I need to have another talk with the conductor to understand why they want this?!?
