Siminì - 12-1-2009 at 07:42 PM

Hi All!
My Name Is Simone, I Come From Rome, Italy, I'm 22 And I Started To Play Oud Some Month Ago! I Love Oud..But I Have Some Problems With His Amplification..I Play Oud In A Rock/Metal Band, REALLY HEAVY SOUND!!

I Need To Resolve Also Only The Problems With Low Volume (Sometimes I Can't hear me, especially when guitars and drum play heavly)..
I Have A Question:

Now I Have This PickUp From Shadows Really Cheap..And I Play Oud Whit A 100watt Ampl Or Direct In A Mixer Impliant..

If Instead I'll Buy This One,Do I Will Have More Volume And A Better Sound Quality?

Please, I Need Some Tips

Listen What I Play For An Idea

Hey Simone, nice little intro ;), the second pickup you point to costs a lot more so it would want to sound better, however I asked someone who uses one and he say's they are not immune to feedback in a loud situation...(oud is very sensitive!) Listening to the rest of the band makes me think you'd be better off with a solid body electric oud...

Edward Powell - 12-2-2009 at 12:33 AM

go for 2 ouds... one solid body for the loud sections... and a normal oud for the quiet parts (and in studio).
this is the only way. You will NEVER compete for volume with an electric guitar metal style in a LIVE situation. Don't waste your time trying :)

--or you can try filling your oud completely with newspaper? [but what a terrible sound]

Hi Simone :wavey:

welcome to the forum!!

I use the SH 700 NFX, because I thought my bluesband, where I play the oud sometimes, is loud. For me it works perfect, no feedbacks at all.But loudness is a very stretchable word...no comparison between our definitions of LOUD!!!:xtreme:
So....go for a solid body electrified oud.
I agree with sazi....nice intro, not soooo far from '' TRADITIONAL AND CORRECT'' Playing of Oud.

Hope you find a solution!

Greetings from germany,

Marcus

PS: Listen to what he does with his e-oud, hope you like it:

Hi Siminì,

Take Edward Powell's post to heart. For a serious solid body oud, send a note to Dr. Oud and ask about the oudtelestar, or you can try one of the many other electric ouds on the market. That's the only way to go if you want to be heard in the setting you're describing. Best of luck man.

Hi!

I Like your heavy metal mix Folk spices!

Yes I do Recommend to get a solid body electric Oud for those kind of purposes. and it is much easiear to play on stage no need to worry about pic-ups "which are, and what not to use".

Keep chugging that metal/folk stuff!

BTW hey guys any suggestion which brands of electric oud is the best sound quality. I maybe getting one this christmas!

Any Suggestion that has a good preamp system? It seems Najarian electric oud is the best? anymore brands or makers?

cheers

I have used SH 700 in a much "louder" setting then on this video (2 e-guitars, bass, synt, drums, vocal, and oud of course), and it worked find! much more beautiful sound (at least, it sounds as a oud should : )
It was on the edge of feeding of course, but worked fine..
The sound man has to be good.. and he should choose your placing on stage carefully.

Good luck

Hi Luttgutt!:wavey:

Whats your Threshold Feedback Level?

Do u used any distortion or syth with your oud? Does the SH 700 Cab handle Effects quite nicely?

Thanks

Philip

Najarian: http://www.oud.net/electric.htm
Sukkar: http://www.oudsukar.com/en/products_special_en.php

Any experiences to report with Najarian's pickups on an acoustic oud? I've never had any problems with feedback, but I perform with an 8-piece takht ensemble, not a rock band!

Hi John!:wavey:

I have an acoustic oud w/ najarian Pick-up Installed. What I can say is it's pretty nice and convincing sound still maintains its harmonic Subtleties. You can still hear good dynamics and pretty natural sound. But we all know the limitations of a Pick-up Transducer compare to a good condenser microphone in front of the oud. That is another case of choice I supposed. And even when it is plugged into a lot of series of pedals it doesn't feedback. Especially when it's just Oud Solo.:D

I'm Just asking in electric coz I want to expand my bounderies here.

Thanks for asking John. Here's the My Oud with Najarian Pick-up Inside. Check further pages you can see I Post Just the Najarian Pickup Up close and Personal.:buttrock:
