Wonderful song, Sazi, but I'm not really satisfied with the mix ... the oud could be a bit louder for my taste ;)

Yes Chris, I agree, it should be louder, maybe I'll remix it, but the cheap oud was recorded with a really cheap and nasty plastic Tandy mic insert gaffa'd to it, so it doesn't sound the best.

David, you could be right there, these are old tunes, but in the next lot of recordings I hope to bridge that divide somehow, reading that conversation may be of some help in working out the details, I keep going over it, there is a lot to think about there!

It's hard to say as a couple of things immediately shock the senses. If you have the original tracks, gotta lose the snare and the tinkly General Midi style solo keyboard. Then the question is what is this chord progression, is it original enough? One of the strengths of western harmony is the equivalence of major and relative minor. Since that particular sequence is overused, maybe try swapping in some other chords in the progression?

Well we are all entitled to our own opinions, although I have to say I don't agree this time Anthony, leaving aside the aweful things two or three different format changes do to the tonal quality of a final youtube video, I chose the snare because it sounded real and not too expensive, and I was trying to get the live amateurish sound of an Indy band recording at home.

I would never ever use general midi for anything, and the tinkly sound you refer to I spent a lot of time on getting it to sound the way it does, (I admit it doesn't sound good on the tube!)

And as far as western harmony and major / minor and overused progressions are concerned -

I know nothing of these things,

I am not a trained musician. When I say I'm just a monkey with an oud, I'm not joking.

I just play what sounds nice to me at the time, I'm not trying to do something to satisfy an intellect, I am just expressing myself on a different level.

Honestly the snare was just ok. yes a Little higher volume of the oud would be better. And The Idea was great man!:applause: Something a little bit sounding western. Which I do Like Also. Great tune Saz. I hope it would be a little bit more virtouso on the middle part to really catch the vibe. Put some climax on it. Nevertheless it is still Great!:applause:

Don't worry about theory a Lot. Just a little knowledge on chord progressions would be better not for this piece but for future pieces that u like to compose in a same kind of category (w/ Western Influence).

Hey Flip, thanx for listening, yeah, I guess you guys are right, I suppose I should try to learn a bit of theory just to satisfy the learned ones and add some interest....:rolleyes:

I already jam with your recording! Sounds awesome!

But some part is somewhat missing. Its like there should be a change of chord in some place. I can't remember where.

Hey Flip, that's neat! Maybe I'll find out what the wtf I'm actually doing!:D

I couldn't tell you what chords I used, but there cant be many, and they would only be 3 note ones, let me know where you think the change should be, not that I can do much about it at this stage, but I'm getting an idea here, ( uh-oh, look out!)

I might start another thread about it...
