I'm afraid I get confused with the tuning suggestions. Does C F A d g c mean that "c" is c' - middle c or are we really talking about the first c
descending on the F cleft ?
Or, is this Oud tuning higher than a standard classical guitar?

Hi, the A d & g are the same as on guitar, the F is the same as a fretted F on the low E string of guitar the C is a 4th lower than the F and the
high c is a 4th higher than the g. I don't know what it is on a clef, sorry.

The "c" you're talking about is the 4th note after the G clef when you go up.

every 8 consecutive notes are considered and octave
example: F to F is an octave(base) and f to f another octave (sol )
the top 3 staffs CFA are base ( low notes) sound
bottom 3 staffs dgc are sol (high notes) sound
get a chromatic tuner, as you play you will find where your notes are...
with passion, patience and practice you will be fine
