Please stay away from Windows7. It crashes the net explorer (both IE & firefox), and
MOST IMPORTANT, IT DOES NOT ALLOW ANY MULTI-MEDIA FILES TO RUN!!!!!
I made a huge mistake of buying a new laptop with Windows7 as the OS.
I can't run Youtube, and ALL the video files I have.

You probably just need to download the right codecs for win7, do a quick google and you should find what you need, as 7 apparently has support for
more formats than earlier O.S',s.
Or try VLC media player, plays just about everything.
BUT FIRST...
Have you tried looking in the microsoft download center for the latest patches? There are a couple, depending on whether you
have the 32 or 64 bit version.
Regarding Firefox - it crashes all the time anyway, try Google Chrome browser, quick and reliable, and it automatically copies all your Firefox
bookmarks, so it's a very quick changeover, and downloads and installs in seconds! You can literally be using Firefox one minute and Chrome the
next. Aymara - 12-19-2009 at 12:59 AM
Maybe try the English Internet Explorer newsgroup ... a Windows 7 newsgroup isn't available so far ... the Vista forum might be an alternative.
Regarding multimedia problems keep in mind that Windows 7 is modular and you'll have to download and install Windows Media Player on your own,
depending on the version:
PS: To use Youtube, make shure, you have Java and Flash Player installed.
PPS: Make shure to use Windows Update.Hatem_Afandi - 12-19-2009 at 06:46 AM
Thanks Sazi & Chris,
I just got that llaptop last Monday. I kept on getting more than 25 updates every day.
I am still trying to stabilize the OS. However, it has been difficult to say the least.
I do appreciate your replies and suggestions. Will keep you (and everybody else) up to date. I hope that it is not a generic situation with
Windows7.
I already tried some of your tips and still downloading SP's and codecs. Stay tuned!
I hope that it is not a generic situation with Windows7.
No, because a colleague of mine has got a new notebook with Windows 7 too and is very happy with it ... "works like a charme" ... and ... "Windows has
never been easier" ... he said.
But I expect Windows 7 experiences to be different, as it always was ... some are happy, some are not.Ararat66 - 12-19-2009 at 01:18 PM
I've just got a new laptop and am striking it up tonight so wish me luck, this laptop is XP and I'm hoping windows 7 will still allow me to run all my
software - apparently there is an XP enabling update to 7 if that helps.
Haha ... I know a lot of people, who tell the same about Macs and recommend Linux
Many people can't switch to other operating systems, because of software requirements.mrkmni - 12-20-2009 at 11:26 AM
I have it installed... no major problem at all...
recently windows media player had a little trouble (interruptions) but I dont think it is because of W7.
