Dear Fadel,
I believe that the book you have talks about Targan when he stayed in Baghdad in the beginning of 20th century.
There he was called Sherif Muhyieddin instead of Targan. Then i think towards the 20's of the last century he went back to Turkey where he settled.
Targan--or Sherif Muhyieddin-- is considered to be the true founder of the Iraqi school in oud playing, where he introduced Turkish techniques and makams into Iraqi Arabic Music. Also he contributed in establishing the Institute of Arabic Music in Baghdad.
You verify this information if it is of an importance to you, or maybe anyone here can substantiate it or even correct it.
