Hi Sabbassi.
Bravo for this very nice oud.
By the way, I want to ask you where to find lemon pegs.
I would like to try a set of these pegs on one of my ouds ( for aesthetic reason only! ).
Thanks.
Sabbassi builds ouds and sells them ... not enough room to keep them all

Hi Chris, thank you for the big support all time.
this oud is well balanced and have warm sound. need a while to open up as you all know the french polish on the face for protection always need time.
and off course the strings are new on the oud (the metal characters disapear after couple of weeks).
easy playing (strings are 3 mm at neck join).
here is a movie where you can see the whole oud (also the face): (don't pay attention to the noisy background and playing, I'm not good at it). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcZu79PxqwE
the pegs are from lemon, acquired from Morocco. I friend of mine in Marrakech make them.
francis - 2-19-2010 at 10:25 AM
I would like to order a set of these pegs.
Could I buy them from you or could you give your friend's address ( or phone if he speaks french )in Marrakech.
The video gives a good rendition of this beautiful oud!
Bravo!

Francisfernandraynaud - 2-25-2010 at 04:34 AM
Sabbassi,
Too bad you removed the video, others (like me) wanted to see what such an oud sounds and looks like! sabbassi - 2-25-2010 at 07:01 AM
Sorry fernandraynaud.
I'm not a good player and it sound terrible if I see and hear myself.
in the reality, a good player can promote a bad oud very wel and a bad player can do the same in a negative way.
the oud sound in the reality very nice, but when I play it myself I feel I don't do justice to the oud
I will put it back again soon.bibo10 - 2-25-2010 at 01:17 PM
please reupload..this is a good way to promote your ouds, or have the buyer upload a sound fileAymara - 2-25-2010 at 02:22 PM
I miss the video too - I was listening to it a few times a day in anticipation of receiving this really unique oud. The combination of woods, colors,
craftsmanship and really impressive sound blew me away when I first saw this post.
Like many of us on the forums, I've been following Samir's building for a while, impressed by his craftsmanship, creativity and efficiency too. When I
first saw this instrument and heard how strong and even it's sound is, I was really impressed and couldn't help contacting Samir about it.
I've also discovered his friend Khalid Belhaiba's building artistry, along with many great Moroccan oud players on his site: http://www.belhaibaoud.com/
It's really amazing how much talent is in Morocco and somehow I haven't really been aware of it until now. I'm very glad that I'm finally in on the
secret (I'm sure my focus on Greek and Turkish music was part of the reason for my ignorance).
Inshallah, when the oud arrives safe and sound I will definitely post a sample or two of it online, but until then, I'd love to be able to hear that
short clip on youtube...
Many thanks,

Good choice Mav, the instrument sounds great right off the bat -- and the construction quality and materials are first rate; Samir you've got a great
eye ! I didn't figure on staining the maple, but it looks so rich. Enjoy Mav. Looking fwd. to the next project Samir.

LeonAymara - 2-27-2010 at 02:33 PM
Hey Samir,
it seems as if this oud model could become a top seller ... if you build more.sabbassi - 2-28-2010 at 03:17 PM
Hi Everyone,
thank you and I'm very pleased with your warm feedback and u2u's.
I will reply everybodys u2u tomorrow . and offcourse I will post he video again.
There is only just one thing I'm trying to achieve ; build a nice, sold and musicaly (arabic) sounding oud with the same charachtersitics like pro
guitars but with a reasonable price (depends on the wood used of course).
When I say pro guitars, I'm trying to use the same material used in the pro guitards. I mean, the neck join (honduran mahogany), neck: quarter sawn
solid wood or mahogany. and of course the body:maple, walnut, rosewood, honduras rosewood etc.. always use ebony for fingerboard and if available
ebony pegs or rosewood.
I will be builidng 5 ouds next from different woods, beautiful honduran rosewood, honduran mahogany(scares), flamed walnut, flamed maple and indian
rosewood. they will all be with rounded sound holes with rosettes and sitka spruce for the top.
I have sent you several emails over the past few days regarding the oud.
I would appreciate a reply.
Thank you,
Mavrothimavrothis - 3-11-2010 at 11:20 AM
Again Samir, I need you to reply regarding the oud.
If you have been somehow unable to reply up until now because you are out of town or otherwise away from the internet, I understand, but I cannot
accept your silence if you are just avoiding responding to me.
Mavrothiabusin - 3-12-2010 at 02:38 AM
Hi Mav,
Two weeks ago Samir when I last spoke to him via U2U he said he is going to Morocco,

Two weeks ago Samir when I last spoke to him via U2U he said he is going to Morocco ...
Then it is very likely, that he is visiting his friend Khalid Belhaiba.sabbassi - 3-12-2010 at 04:46 AM

Thank you Samir, I have seen your replies this morning. It makes sense to me now that you weren't replying because you were out of the country.
