Hey Guys,

Im in a real JT mood this week since those jazz clips, but I found this. So amazingly beautiful. Quite different, what do you guys think?

on my opinion, excellent mastering of the intrument, the latter is beautiful and shining, i did not get into this kind of Takssim.
long life and good health for Faruk.:bounce:

Very nice, especially compared to the Jazz stuff- not particularly my cup of tea. My only gripe would be that the tonic doesn't appear to change so the mood doesn't shift as much as it otherwise could but hey, we each have our own styles.

Cool. "The tonic doesnt appear to change" - Isnt that taksim? :D

I just think it sounds very heartfelt not like the usual taksim you hear, its not traditional Arabic phrasing, but thats the beauty of it I think, quite unique and different to other oud players. The instrument responds very well...

Hi Jass.

Usually I don't like JT's takassim. And this one is no exception.

He started the taksim very soulfully and quitely for the first 2 minutes, which I liked - I wished he continued that way, it would have been great. But then, and as usual, his technique took over and we he does that to show off, the taksim looses its soul and I don't enjoy it anymore. And as a taksim that played around the same style and mood, and in which the phrases are very similar from the middle of it and onwards, it's too long.

I get tired of hearing the drone all along the taqsim.
It's the same in his CD The Prophet: I feel that he abuses of the open 7th course.

Yeah, he does seem to use that bass string often. But I almost feel like its a accompaniment to the takasim, but I can see your point.
Reda, actually think this piece flowed pretty well, there was a nice build up to the flashy stuff, but I guess if you can do it, then why not? :) I wish I could do that.
Anyway, I like, but understand if you guys dont. But I couldnt get enough of it, it was like a theme and variations which held the piece together, something that is often forgotten. But respect what you guys are saying.
Thanks!

Music is always a matter of personal taste.

It doesn't matter, which musical piece you listen to, you'll always find people who like it and others who don't.
