hi, any pricing info?

fernandraynaud - 6-5-2010 at 06:08 PM

... he said: 1890-1903. Is that Euros or dollars and does it include a case? At that price, I would think strings should come on all of them. Sorry :D

azzizza - 6-6-2010 at 09:58 AM

1890-1903 would be the years the ouds were made, not the pricing, right?

Thanks

veyselmaster - 6-16-2010 at 03:23 AM

No faladel not high prices. Can you find me a cheaper and thus quality antique oud?

Best wishes

Faladel - 6-16-2010 at 09:26 AM

yes, they are selling ancient ouds of luthiers important for much less, in turky and in the Arab world, I do not know because you have raised the prices so much of the ancient ones as the new ones at unpayable prices

I would like to say something about this forum. It has been a wonderfully positive way of learning about ouds and Arabic music and I remember a time when there was a great feeling of comradeship among the members. However, I don't visit very often any more because of the disrespectful attitude and bad manners of some of the current members. This thread is only one illustration. It must be a real drag to go through life being angry all the time and perhaps these individuals should ask themselves if they know why they are angry and whether or not they have the right to inflict it on other people. It is unfortunate and a bit sad. -Roy

Whatever the price is (high for someone or low for others) I just want to learn something about Kirkor Kahyayan. Please Veysel. Can you give us some data about Kirkor. When and how did he made these ouds. The degree of his craftmanship. As the members remember I used to follow threads about Manol. However, it will be great for me to learn some historical data about Kirkor and the of course differences between Manol and Kirkor will be appreciated with a big taste. I think your father Usta Cengiz can do this for us.

I agree with Roy.

Veysel Sarikus did not ask for anybody's opinion as to the value of the instruments.

$4000 is the price he wants. So be it. Cengiz Sarikus is an honest, respected luthier. $4000 is not an excessive amount for an oud that is 120 years old, and in decent condition. How many ouds of this age actually come on the market (and yes, I do know about the one on ebay currently--which does not appear to be in playable condition)?

I have an oud by Krikor (the first name is not Kirkor) Kehayan, and I like it very much. It is not on the same level as a Manol, or Karibyan, but that is not the point. It has its own voice--very dark and woody, and I like it a lot. He was based in Istanbul, and was an important figure regarding training future oudmakers, as well. He made a quality instrument--which probably explains why Dr. Sarikus can present three of them.

Are there Manol's available for $4000? Not many. But, really, that is irrelevant. The price of these instruments is $4000.

And, if one is entering into negotiations with the owner, probably a better way to do it would be through private emails or u2u's.

As always, Dr. Sarikus, it is a pleasure to see your instruments. I have purchased 6 ouds from you now, and in every case, you have been honest with me, and described the instruments perfectly.
