Hey, everyone...
After three months of waiting, and reading of and looking at photos of other forum members’ ouds, I received my new instrument today!!! It was made
by Faruk Turunz in Turkey. The back is walnut; the face spruce; the peg box is walnut and maple; the pegs and fingerboard are ebony; the rosettes are
horn.
It's an incredibly light instrument and has wonderful sound and projection. The action is fairly low—I haven’t had a chance to measure it
yet, though. The neck is a bit wider than my other oud, making it much more comfortable on my left hand—I have long fingers.
Nadir and Spyrosc I owe both of you thanks for posting pictures of your respective Turunz ouds. I was very inspired by what I saw. And although it was
a tough choice as to what maker I was going to go with, but the photos and Faruk’s very helpful and personable responses to all my questions won me
in the end.
Of course, I’d like to thank Mike for this great board and all the members, too. I’ve learned so much from reading the posts. It’s really
invaluable.
I took the photos in my office so they’re not that great…

What a beauty. Do you mind telling us which level Turunz oud this is (is it his quality, concert, or grand concert?). Any particular reason why you
chose the mahagony over other woods for the bowl?

First, Mav, thanks for the compliment. After seeing all your great instruments, I figured it was time for me to get one!
Jonathan, I chose walnut for aesthetic reasons. I love the grain patterns and color. I’m not certain which model it is, as Faruk and I went over
what I wanted and I asked if he could do it for x amount of money. Based on the amount, I suppose that it’s the grand concert model.
As soon as I get my microphone back, I’ll post a sound clip.

Hey William,
My pleasure man, I'm very happy for you. Mr. Turunz is one of the top Turkish oud makers, I'm sure you will be very happy with this oud.
It's funny, all my ouds are either partly walnut, or completely walnut. It's really a great wood for a clean but bassy tone.
Enjoy my friend! Looking forward to hearing it. 
By the way, I love the whole
instrument, but I think my favorite part is the pegbox. It's really stunning.
