Hello everyone,
please have a look at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p88zXd3bxto
A private person wants to sell this oud. He says it's a Sukar, build this year 2010.
Price is 400€ + hardcase.
Is that a good deal? Which model is it? How much is the local price in Syria for such an instument? As I havn't even started getting oud lessons, I'm
in need of your experience, especially regarding the sound (that you can hear in the video above).
Thanks in advance,
khaled

It looks like maybe a model 7?
That seems like a decent price. It's not some great deal, but it's reasonable.
The sound in the video is a bit distorted, but it sounds decent, like pretty much all Sukar ouds.
cheers,
Brian

Have him send you a picture of the label.
Sukar lists his modles here http://www.oudsukar.com/New/en/products_en.php?cat=oud

The Sukar Model 7 usually has rosettes on the smaller holes and the pickguard does not look like a Sukar pickguard.
Sukar could have changed some design elements this year so that may account for the difference in appearance.
I would definitely have him send you a picture of the inside certificate and ask him to loosen the strings and send a picture of the inside of the oud
pointing towards the neck joint; there should be a wing nut to adjust the neck...if that is not there, it isn't a Sukar.

Hey Khaled,
It looks very much like a Sukar oud, with a different pickguard design than the usual Sukar ouds. From the video I can see that the bridge is of the
typical shape used by most makers coming from Aleppo and Sukar has always used this shape. Also The small part of the label looks like a Sukar label
to me, even though it's not really clear...definitely not a shehata
I don't really see the point of anyone going out of their way to sell a fake Sukar, it's not as if they are limited or no more being made Actually I think it's easier to get a real Sukar than a fake one :p
As Zulu advised, ask for some pictures for the back and label...the model can only be known by seeing the back of the oud...
Regards,
Ibrahim
