Hello, this is maybe slightly OT, but I thik it's interesting to see the guitar maker and oud maker work (this time on a guitar). He is the one who
made my wonderful seven course oud recently.
I'd like to share with everybody a little film I made yesterday during a visit in the workshop of my friend and very admired luthier, Sebstian
Stenzel.
He asked me to shoot some pictures, and as it happened, my camera was also able to shoot a short movie, which I did.
I was able to film a very traditional procedure of binding the purflings with a rope. While for me it's hard to imagine how the making of the
purflings works at all, I could see Sebstian do it with the same ease as I do peel carrots.
Anyway, you might enjoy it. The background music is played (2009, from "Only A Page In My Guitar Diary") by me on a Sebstian Stenzel Flamenca Blanca
built in 1998 in Munich.
Hi Fadel, yes, it's a lot of money, but his oud is worth it. I'm quite sure, when he becomes more known as oud maker, they will be even more
expensive.
When he started making guitars they were also much cheaper. Recently he sells guitars for around 11,000 US$ and he has almost a two years waiting
list.
The making of the oud is just impeccable and sound is marvelous and it's getting better day by day
