The rose will be Medieval style rose

Very Nice, keep posting I'm keen to see how this turns out.
As this is an 'oud' forum you may not get many responses but I hope others will post their comments. The medieval lute is a very close relative to the oud and we know so little about its music and history. Scholars continue to speculate on the function of this instrument. My view is that the written out improvisations of Spinnacino and Capriola (Veinice c.1500) provide a clue to the music which may have been played on the earlier lute of the kind you are making.

Hi Yaron, I've just picked up on this post and would like to know how your lute turned out. I've ordered a medieval lute from London based luthier Stephen Barber, (I could not make one to save my life). It should be ready about March 2011. It will be tuned the same way as yours but a slightly longer scale, about 58cm. By the way do you play with a plectrum or fingers? David

I love the rosette and the window - I love this overt connection between music, architecture and no doubt the soul, it seems that music was experienced and expressed as expansive without fear of ridicule - well it still is to most of us here I'd imagine.

Questions :

1- what's the thickness of your soundboard ? especially in the rosette area
2- are the braces under the rosette made for reinforcing the soundboard in this area ?

1- The thickness of the soundboard especially in the rosette area is around 1mm
2- Yes, protect the rosette

That is beautiful - I love flame maple - its heavy wood so 750 grams is amazing, that's 100 grams or so lighter than my Tasos oud.

Would love a soundfile!!!

I've been off the forum for a while so have'nt kept up with things.
I am really very impressed with your lute and your skill.
May you enjoy this lovely instrument and explore its sound, which I imagine is sweet and bell like in tone.
Lutes always feel more responsive than ouds for me, I think this is because the soundboards are much thinner.
Thank you for sharing this project and congratulations on completing a fine addition to the world of music. Bravo!!!
