Shehata Oud ?

Hi folks :wavey:

this oud is on german ebay.
The seller says Mr. Türünc told him it is a Shehata.

Is it one? Maybe one of the specialists in the forum have a look?
I dont wanna buy it, even if it is one, but maybe someone else is interested??

Hi,

I'm not a specialist but owned a Shehata...

I have reservations for this one:
-the soundboard is not made with spruce of uniform color, I've never seen Shehata's like this (but this is not uncommon on cheap Egyptian ouds).
-the pegbox and the pegs are far from the clean work on Shehatas
-I'm suprised that there's no label inside ? Moreover all recent Shehatas have the bowl staves reinforced with paper strips bearing his name

So, probably a Gawaret el Fan oud in disguise ?But at 350eur. it could be ok if you can try it

I don't think it's a Shehata. Unless Maurice went through a "winning" streak some time ago when he made pegs out of clothespins, and oud faces out of Wobble Boards. Anyone remember "Tie me kangaroo down, sport"?

Nor is it likely a Gawaret El Fan. Gawaret El Fan labels are indestructible. Frankly, the story about Turunz saying it's a Shehata is beyond .... cute. The resemblance of the bridge is very superficial, it's a generic Turkish-inspired bridge.

I believe this is THE proverbial generic varnished-face Egyptian oud that can be purchased in Cairo for under 100 Euros. As Danielo says, and I agree (not joking), it could be OK ... if you can try it.

I dont know much about ouds but even i know that this oud is not a shehata oud it looks like a gawharet al fan oud from arab instruments to me
