Recently I have been looking into the connection between the Persian Dastgah and the Maqam. (The Persian modes used to be called Maqam also).
I have noted these similarities:

1.Homayun=Hijaz Homayun
2.Segah=Segah(T),Iraq(A)
3.Esfahan=(close to)Nahawand,Isfahan(T)
4.Shur=(close to)Bayati Shuri(Qarjigar)
5.Mahur=Mahur(T),Ajam Ashiran
6.Afshari=Rast,Sazkar,Awshar(Iraqi)
7.Bayat-e Tork=Jahargah(A)
8.Abuata=Bayati.
9.Ossaq=Ushaq
10.Rast Panjgah=Mahur,Ajam
Ashiran.
11.Dashti=Dasht(Iraqi)
12.Chahargah=(old)Cargah(T),(some similarity to)Zengule Hijaz.
13.Bayat-e Kord=(close to)Huseyni
14.Nawa=Nawa(Iraqi)

actually, Arabian maqams are adapted from those Dastgahs. in the otherword, arabian and persian music used to be one music. from 11th century they
started to seperate. you can also find a lot of similarities in the names of Gushe's. if you are interested(also if you understand arabic!), i will
upload a video from Majid Nazempour's conference in syria in which he has explained these similarities and played examples on oud.

I am researching both the Persian/Arabic music of the Abbasid courts and Ottoman art music.
Walter Feldman, in his book ,Music of the Ottoman Court', connects early Ottoman music to Persian/Arabic music from Herat. I have a good collection of
Medieval Persian miniature copies that feature the musicians in Herat.
I'm very interested to hear Majid Nazempour speak about this.
I have been starting to learn some of the Radif, and have been listening to lots of Persian music.
