I have an arabic oud and am looking for lessons in England. Do you guys know who is good for teaching lessons in the UK? Or another internet resource
where I could find out UK teachers?
I am not yet in England. I will stay for a while and would like to make sure I stay somewhere where a good oud teacher is available. I am thinking of
London, Oxford, or Devon.
Many thanks for the help.

hi- Khyam teaches out of London, privately and at SOAS, though I think he is away at the moment-

You could contact SOAS and ask about oud teachers in London, I believe there are a few involved with SOAS-

You have in London:
Iraqi style - Ehsan Emam & Ahmed Mukhtar. Both their contact infos are available on the net.
There are also some others e.g. Nizar al-issa. What style are you looking to learn?

I am not sure about what style. Is there anywhere where I can listen to some representative recordings of the different styles, so I can have a
clearer understanding of what attracts me the most? I know that I like Hamza El Din, but I have no clear idea of the different styles.
Many thanks.

I think there are definitely going to be more Arab musicians in London than Devon or Oxford. I may be proven wrong but even from the posts on here I
have seen more info regarding London than other areas. Having said that, it is still pretty sparse.

Hi londonoudi,
For me I don't really mind how many there are, as just one good teacher is enough! Did you ever hear of one in Oxford or Devon?
By your name I am guessing you are in London. So do you have an idea of who is the best in London? Or the top players of whichever different styles
here in London? I am yet to figure out the different characters of the styles, which I will try to find out more about, but also in the end, a
mediocre teacher of my favourite style might not be as good a choice as a top teacher of my 2nd favourite!

Hi littleseb,
Thank you, yes I would appreciate that. Would you be able to explain to me a little about what the difference would be between him and Khyam, the
teacher mentioned above?

And.... I'm sorry to ask such a newbie question, but is the Nubian style much different from the style of the above two mentioned teachers? What I
have heard of Nubian oud music (which admittedly is not much) sounds really great. Is it taught also in London?
