I just noticed that Octopus Woods in Turkey have started selling sets of Walnut and Rosewood ribs. Has anyone had any experience with these guys re
quality of woods/shipping? seems a good price .

I send them a mail a year ago for information about how they dry the wood, no answer. I can't say more. It may be good wood. Try to contact them and
give us feedback.

I ordered some Turkish walnut, which is lighter brown in color than American walnut. I haven't used it yet, but it looks good. I did order two
soundboards. I used one, it sounds good, but I'm not sure how they age the wood. I'd like to know myself.

Thanks both for the feedback. The walnut looks ok .I'll give them a try and see if I can get some info on their drying process too. Might be another
good reason to go to Turkey in the near future.
I've got some American walnut billets already- just need a good bandsaw!

Just got a reply from Muzaffer at Octopus woods.
"Hi Kelly,
Thanks your email.
We can send you 4-5 years natural dried Walnut ribs that can use them just Now.
We don't sell kiln dry Woods.
Absolutely natural dry.
Best Regards.
Muzaffer Yeltekin"

The funny thing is, it took them a long time to ship to me. They must have forgotten about my order because it took 5 weeks. Its ok, mistakes happen.
When I place my next order, I'll simply remind them about my order.

Thanks for info John. I'll track order with Muzaffer who emails very promptly as a little problem with Paypal.
Minimum order is Euro 50 so treated myself to A grade spruce boards as well as walnut ribs. I have some cedar stored too already so will check and
compare when the spruce arrives. So far have not been quoted for shipping.

Kelly,
Any updates about your experience with Octopus?

Hi John
No news yet. I emailed Muzaffer a couple of weeks ago just after |Eid and he said he'd be on to it after the festivities. I'll chase it up with
another email later this week.
I'm also loking at good source for brace wood- any thoughts? The last lot I made from 1 hand split billet of straight grained spruce which was ok but
took a lot of time and shavings to get to final dimensions.
I've come across a supplier in US of violin bass bar sections with good looking grain and good dimensions which tho relatively expensive might save
me quite a bit of time and planing. Any thoughts?

The braces seem ok. Just a little pricey.

Octopus update: walnut ribs and spruce boards arrived in Manchester UK today. dispatched on 15/9/10 not bad for European post. Walnut ribs are
uniform thickness, good grain with gentle swirls toward one end one end and clean - no knotting. Spruce boards grade A: again uniform with reasonable
straight grain good clear tap tone and stiff. a litttle tear out in places but will know better when squared for jointing and planed to thickness.
only a little cupping so have put under gentle weight on the flat for a while.
keep you posted.
