Beautiful Jono, rich and tasteful. Surprised you have not had more replies. Thanks for posting these lovely clips.

Hi.
Thanks very much!
It has been good focusing on one maqam for just over a month.
I have discovered a few different versions of Hijaz.
My most recent discovery, is that the third (Hijaz) sounds good emphasized when the fifth is the dominant (Hijaz Diwan, Uzzal).
I previously mostly played the typical Hijaz with Rast off the dominant 4th (Nawa). (That version doesn't suit stressing the Hijaz note so much).
Fadel suggested concentrating on one maqam for a month.
This has been really helpful, and I now know the intricacies of Hijaz much more.

A question Jono : what do you use to register ?

Bravo Jono,
Very tastefull playing and a lot of nice ideas around hijaz. And great sound rendition, so I wait for the answer you give to BaniYazid.
Which oud are you playing here?

Soundcloud is really interesting, we can comment at a precise spot!
I learned Il-Hilwa di a bit slower with more melodrama, but your version sounds tasteful
Hi
Jono Oud N.Z - 9-5-2011 at 06:06 PM
I have been away for a few days, back now.
I am not sure about the 'register' question, do you mean to Mike's Oud's or Soundcloud?
Thanks for the feedback
Very much apprecieated!
I play an Iraqi oud I bought from a friend of my Egyptian teacher.
It has the high F string as well.
There is no label, so i am unsure of the brand.
It is pretty good though, but I could eventually upgrade when I can.

'register' was a frenchy mistake ! I mean what do you use to record ?
Jono Oud N.Z - 9-6-2011 at 02:58 PM
Hi.
That's OK, LOL.
I use Audacity and add some reverb with Fruity Loops.
Just using a simple computer mike at the moment.
