I was in Rudy's Guitar Shop near Times Square a couple weeks ago. They had a playable and decent Arabic style oud that they would like to get rid of.
I think they were asking $200. Didn't have the correct gauge strings and the tuning was very messed up. I did play it and thought it was fine and for
$200 you can hardly go wrong.
thanks for the info, is there any chance i can find a store that has several of them so i can listen and choose?fernandraynaud - 9-10-2011 at 02:32 PM
Dear guts
Welcome to our little community.
I'm afraid ouds are not commodity items, certainly not here. They are handmade one at a time, and the whole concept of models and types retreats
before the reality of each one being its own. It's not common to find more than one at a time, and if a decent one can be gotten for $200, it's a
chance you should run, not walk, to explore. If you do, take some closeup photos so people here can give you further tips and opinions. Especially
important to check flat parts for warping, and measure the action, the string height above the fingerboard where the neck and body meet. Best
success!
