Sukar Model 9 for $450 with hard case - should I buy?

permanentnovice - 11-20-2011 at 03:21 PM

Someone I know is selling a Sukar model 9 with a hard case for $450 in really good shape. I'm wondering if this is a good price for this oud. Can someone help me out?

Assuming the oud is in good working order I think this is a reasonable price for any model of Sukar oud?, and a bargain for the more expensive models which are not better in sound but are made from more expensive woods. I'm unsure of the specs for model 9.

This is the summary of this oud:

"The sound board is unfinished spruce and the box is from walnut and rose (I'm not 100% sure about the sound box wood). I also believe that the pegs are made from ebony wood. The last two pictures show a crack (very thin and about 1.5 inch long) in the finger board and a decorative veneer piece that broke off. In both cases the issue is a matter of cosmetics and has no affect on the sound. The oud can use new strings, but you can start playing it immediately."

Does that help anyone get a better idea for what this is worth? supposedly the Model 9 is rare, and somewhat similar to the model 213

I don't know .. I don't like Sukkar ouds at all. Do you know Samir Al Kebbeh? I prefer his ouds. they cost around 400-500$ .comes with better finish, better wood and amazin' sound.

Good luck.

I actually ended up buying a Sukar 212, brand new with a hard case for $400...I think I got a good deal, there.
