Hi!
I'm new to this forum and to the oud---but--wow----do I love it!!
I bought an Oud in Istanbul a month ago---and have been using YouTube and this wonderful forum for instruction and inspiration.
My current interest is the oud's influence on Western Medieval music.
Here is my "take" on "Chantar m'er" a song composed by Beatritz de Dia a "trobairitz" (female troubadour) in the 12th century. I am playing both oud
and saz (Turkish lute) to illustrate the influence of Middle Eastern music and instruments on Western medieval music (via Andalusia). Most of the
illuminations are from an illuminated medieval song book "Cantigas de Santa Maria".
I'm also playing a saz---a newcomer to that instrument as well. My Turkish oud is in arabic C F A d g c tuning.

Brilliant! I know very little of European early Medieval music, but I can see how the Arabic influence was preponderant, as in every field of the
arts, science, literature, architecture, medicine and general knowledge. This is a new universe disclosing.....

Very nice, it reminds me of the German group Estampie's first album 'A Chantar' (1990), which uses the oud, saz and tar alongside European medieval
instruments.
Thanks!

Here is my first attempt to play a "trio" with my three stringed instruments: guitar, saz and oud. The melody is a song by the incomparable Turkish
bard Aşık Veysel--"Uzun ince bir yoldayım", or "Long and Winding Road". The song starts with a guitar and saz duet--then it moves to an
oud "taksim" (improvisation)--I'm just beginning to learn the oud so it's a little rough! Thanks for listening!

Thanks for the tip Marc, another great program. When it talks about the oud, there's a segment on 00.27.07 where there's a frame of the oud played, it
has the lone bamm string (tuned to G) and then a single A where the usual double course should be. How cool is that? I think I might adopt it.......
