For sure.
This is very interesting regarding tuning's and theory versus actual practice.
The first time I came across this was reading Karl Signell's book 'Modal Practice in Turkish Art Music' where he mentions Necdet Yasar's need for
extra frets for the notes such as the neutral second (2.5 commas flat) in maqam Ushshaq.
The 'ghost notes' LOL.
The difference between 'Gypsy' and classical intonations of Hijaz are interesting too (Signell), the 'Gypsy' tuning is very close to Iranian Homayun
(D,Ed,F#,G).
It seems that Hijaz was still played like this in Syria and Lebanon in Mikhail Mishaqa 's day.

It's good to see a new thesis (2008) with modern graphs and tables, even if I have to catch up on my reading.
