Dear friends,
who of you has experience in travelling with your oud in airplanes? What would you recommend how to handle this situation? Normally an oud in a
hardcase will be too big to get through as hand luggage to take into the cabin, isn't it? But your oud is too expensive to go with your normal
suitcases... so what to do?
I'm looking forward to your suggestions...

Hi Alexander,
I flew many times with my oud, not in a hardcase but in a big gigbag. Never had any problems to take it as handluggage.
If it does not fit in the overhead-lokker you can ask the stewardess.
I always ask kindly, with a smile; if there is a possibility to find a save place for the second-beautyfull lady on the plane and it allways worked
(even in the past when I carried guitars).
If it is possible, fly Turkish Airlines, they are used to carry Instruments in the cabin.
If I were you I would not ask at the check-in......many questions=many answers.
Good luck,
Marcus

fly with greeks or turks - there is never a problem with instruments...
otherwise, you fall into the world of rules and regulations!
