Dear Friends,
I forgot to mention, that I got the chance to arrange a final concert of the 3rd edition of this project. For those who are living near by I can
recomment that concert.
The Camellia Ensemble presents traditional and contemporary music from the near east and arab home lands. The group plays well known traditional songs
from different regions and periods. These are long and slow forms ( samaii ) and faster pieces ( longa ). The 4 young musicians are living since
august in Germany and have had several concerts in the north of Germany. Jehad Jazbeh - Violin Hadil Mirkhan - Cello & Aoud Amer Dahbar - Percussion Batoul Jazbeh - voice
About the violinist it can be said:
Among a huge variety doing projects in Syria and Europe, it is the case, that he played with Ziad AlRahbani in many of his concerts in Damascus and
Beirut and recorded in Fayrouz new albums, with Marcel Khalifa in many concerts.
last friday we ha really a wonderful concert with the Camillia Ensemble. 4 young musicons gave us a verywell balanced concert with a program crossing
the tradidional repertoire.
Find here some pictures.
Also soon i will be able to publish videos of this fine concert.

Aoud Workshop for beginner - Mustafa Said
Mustafa Said puts his focus in that group on one side on the technique, especially on holding the plectrum, the rischa and furthermore on the way to
pluck the strings. Both he thinks are the main principles to get a good contact to the instrument. But also the general holding of the instrument will

Naturally his special traditional and egyptian stile goes into his lessons.
He is working in his lessonwithout notes, only listening and repeating is his method to get a feeling to that instrument and the oriental tunes. This
is an importand aspect for him.
His lessons are an optimal start on the oud.

percussion for beginner with joss Turnbull
Frame drums are one of the oldest percussion instruments of the world. Possibly having its origin in the symbolic transformation of the flour sieve in
ancient Mesopotamia it then spread throughout the world, developing on the way countless varieties of shape and sound.
In this workshop you will be getting an insight over the basic techniques and rhythms for the large frame drum as played on the lap in a sitting
position. Not just the training of individual playing skills will be focused in Joss's workshops but also the skills of ensemble playing. He works
with an eye on the the whole playing posture so that an easy and relaxed way of playing can develop. Bodypercussion and exercises for improvisation
will be completing the every day's instrumental practice.

Over seas trio
M. Said - Aoud
Eddin Maraqa - Kanun
J. Turnbull - percussion
The encounter of three outstanding solo artists is a fascinating experience. Said is known as a guardian of traditional Arabic music while he also
endeavours to renew the arabian music with his new and contemporary compositions without loosing the old musical systems of the classical heritage.
Maraqa has a profound knowledge of different styles in the oriental music and feels free to blend western sounds and ideas of experimental
improvisation. The percussionist Turnbull combines different musical worlds such as the metrics of the near orient and an innovative aesthetic of
sound. This trio concert guarantees an intense and extraordinary live experience which will touch the listener.

2nd concert -- 6th september, 8pm, Sulzburg former Synagogue
"Wasla-s" Egyptian suite
Tarek Abdallah, Aoud & Adel Shams El Din, percussion
The wasla is a particular expression of the musical suite, developed by different Arab traditions, like "Nuba" in North Africa and "Fasl" in Syria.
Therefore the term refers to the specific Egyptian classical musical suite that was practised between the last third of the nineteenth century until
the 1940s. Nowadays, this period, the "Nahda era", is considered as the Golden Age, not only of this musical tradition, but also in the art of
Egyptian oud solo. "Wasla - s" is a creation developed by Tarek Abdallah proposing to revive the golden age of the musical tradition through a
personal approach to the Egyptian musical suite, both in terms of composition, interpretation and improvisation.
Both musicians are from Alexandria, living now in France since many years and are fluent in the language of Egyptian classical tradition. The duo
evokes the fascinating history of this ancient music while by extending it with inspired contemporary compositions. The shape of the duo offers these
interpreters freedom to express their talent of outstanding improvisers.
