tracks 9-14 are oud violin and piano. some of them have more oud than others
the weird middle eastern stereotype names are due to these recordings having been put out as a 78-rpm album set, they were marketed to the mainstream
US audience in the 50s and given these titles to appeal to the american audience. ie "fortune teller's dream" is the well known nihavent longa and
others are well known turkish pieces.
hrant on oud, i have no idea who the piano and violin players are
ok i found some of them online

also on the album "armenians on 8th avenue" you can hear some piano in the background on "nazli guzel bebecegim" and i think "ninno yavrum" but its
very minimal

Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of seeing Joe and James Tawadros playing a concert with pianist Matt McMahon. It was the first time I had seen Joe
and James playing with Matt and it was fabulous.
You can see and hear how it sounds here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NilHdbxQZ7Q&list=PL7F600432489B9...
I shot some video of Joe warming up backstage before the show and will post it here in the coming days.

Greg

rootsguitar,
you're welcome
hrant's lament is actually a classical turkish song by Bimen Sen, a well known Armenian composer in Turkey in the early 20th .century. unfortunately i
don't know the real name of the song, only that Hrant's Lament was composed by Bimen Sen.

I'm so glad for these details & have been sharing the links with some musicians in this small town...
I will pass on the composer info too...it'll be a good place to delve further.
also Thanks Greg, The Joseph Tawadros ( Great Sea) footage is fantastic.
Dynamic & inspiring.

Normally, I HATE that combo, but I have a cassette by Saudi singer/oudist Talal El Maddah with some very tasteful electric piano/synthesizer
background. If you're intereseted in something like that, I can dig out the cassette and look for YouTube recordings.
Let me know.
Peace out,
