Hi, I am new at this. I have an Oud that has been in our family for years. I suspect that my Aunt, got it when she was in Damascus, many years ago. I have done a good bit of research on it and i would like some information on the picture on the inside, it is not like any I have found. It is beautiful, but sadly has not been as well cared for as it should have been. Can anyone tell me what they can about it. Thanks your the site is beautiful

You got yourself a treasure of a oud.

He is one of the more famous and successful oud makers from Syria.

doesnt look like its in really bad shape either so string it up with some quality arabic oud strings and make it sing again.

It says 1967, looks like a great oud. Where do you live? Perhaps there is a luthier or other knowledgeable person who can take a look at it and assess the condition and any needed repairs.

I'd like to see a photo of the bowl. Looks like it's had a neck reset (could have been a long time ago, so could still have high action), and also the bridge was replaced. These are usually good ouds.

Thanks for all of the response. So nice, after all my searching, to get some first hand info. I cannot read a great deal of what is on the picture(cannot translate). The neck has been broken and the tuning neck also. The bridge was replaced even as long as i can remember and then was replace again by my mother. The bowl is beautiful, but lost some inlay. I have found a luthier that is very good, and he wants $800.00 to $1000.00 to fix it, i trust him. Is this too much to spend. I do not have any idea of the value, except sentimental. I will not be selling it, I just want to hear it. Pictures will follow of bowl and damage. Any other comments greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is also a luthier called Viken Najarian in California who is a world renowned Oud maker. I would take it to him as well. Try to stay away from violin or guitar makers.
The Oud can only really be setup by someone who plays and is familiar with the instrument.

If you're somewhere in Miami, Fla. I may have a good suggestion for a very fair price restoration.

Thank you for translating this for me Alfaraby. I am not close to Florida. I am taking this very slowly as far as the restoration, but feel I really want to have it done. Will continue researching. Thanks for your interest!!

I am also willing to repair it, and have repaired many ouds just like this, consider me an option as well. I am in NY. Thanks
