beautiful oud, who wouldn't want this in their collection? I'll need to win the lottery though.
Nice to hear Nazih playing, he not only makes them but plays them well.
Hussamd has a good idea, a calendar with a very special oud for each month.Dr. Oud - 3-18-2014 at 06:46 AM
I think the calendar idea could work, especially if the oud is held by a pretty girl (in a strategic position), huh?MatthewW - 3-18-2014 at 06:50 AM

Going to a good home, lucky owner.s3cr3t3 - 3-25-2014 at 01:03 PM
Nice instrument and yes good to see Mr. Ghadban playing.
BTW: I have a 1955 G. Nahhat oud that I bought from Nazih Ghadban around 2005 - 2006. Mr. Najarian is going to rebrace it.
also beautiful instruments and sound , so if anyone wants to buy it let me know. Action and neck could be custom adjusted
now that Mr. Najarian has it s3cr3t3@gmail.com . Also serious offers onlyDr. Oud - 3-25-2014 at 03:00 PM
Rebrace it? and lose the sound played into it over the past 59 years? Why?Brian Prunka - 3-25-2014 at 04:38 PM
Please don't let Najarian change the braces on a Nahat! He is a good luthier but not at all in the Arabic style. You will potentially destroy the
value of the instrument.
Please tell him you changed your mind . . . if you need work done on it have someone who specializes in Arabic ouds to do the work. Some folks on
the forum who I would trust are John Vergara or Doc Oud. If you're in California, Najib Shaheen goes out there regularly and would be a good person
to work on it. Jameel Abraham in Iowa also does good work but he doesn't seem to be working on ouds much these days (but might make an exception for
a Nahat).Dr. Oud - 3-25-2014 at 09:32 PM
The only reason to re-brace an antique oud is if it has been damaged beyond repair, and I don't believe that there is any damage that cannot be
repaired. I have a 1927 Abdo George & Sons oud that has nearly 30 cracks in the face. All have been repaired, and it sounds fantastic. When you
change any element of the sound board (bridge, bracing, roses, raqmq) it will change the character of the sound. What makes the Nahhat oud so valuable
is that sound character and most of that is due to having been played for many years. A Nahhat that has a new face, new braces or any other
"improvement " to the soundboard will lose half its value in my opinion. paulO - 3-26-2014 at 05:32 PM
I concur with Richard 100%, also - I can't believe that Viken would just mess with the face of an instrument that didn't need it....an oud with a new
top, is essentially a new oud.....that'll have to be "played in" thus the reduction in value . Good luck.

Please let me clarify. The TOP will not be replaced, and the intent is to use All the original wood, basically
the idea is to keep the original braces but re-set them to as they were. Not really to replace the original material unless it was weakened by
time. This would only be considered for supporting material underneath NOT the Top in any way.
I though about Najib but though he was only working out of New York and when I sent an email to his website address got no response
so inferred maybe he wasn't taking clients. Do you have his contact info?
The top is currently off yet all the original parts as sent to me by Nazih Ghadban are there, I would be willing to sell as is and let someone else
do the top reset . The whole work should not be more than $400 - $600 and I would of course discount that and a small percent extra for the
trouble
Email me and I can send a couple of photos I took before taking to Mr. Najarian. I don't think he has started the repairs yet as I'm waiting on
a final quote.s3cr3t3 - 3-28-2014 at 10:49 AM
PS , I don't want to add more to this post so I created a new topic for the 1955 Nahhat, also included some photos and my
contact info to further discuss suggestions or consider offers
