A new Oud is growing up... made of old cherry and flamed maple with 19 ribs... The top is made of kaukasian spruce with narrow rings in the center and
a bit wider to the sides. Very thin and sensible. The body will have a bit more depth as a classical syrian Oud in this size, but with the common
string length at 585mm.
In one or two days the paper stripes will be assembled...
The next step is completed... the paper stripes are inserted.
It´s a somehow "heavy" paper, I let it soak the glue a while and when the paper "feels" wet, I took it and "wiped" it on the rib joint with the
fingers (and the fingernails)... "pressing" the wet glue in the wood... very carefully... not to destroy the stripe of paper. So when this will be
dried out, the paper does function like a very thin peace of wood... with some glue in it, and some glue in the wood it gives a very tight and strong
area with the rib joint.
Now it´s time for the label :-) muhssin - 3-30-2014 at 07:22 PM
