A friend in France sent me this rather interesting small photograph of Maulawi / Mevlevi dervishes assembled at their lodge in Canee, Crete, made in
1905. Among these followers of the teachings of Imam Maulana Jalal ad-Din of Balkh called Rumi d1273 there are musicians including an oudi. At first
I thought he might be Muhiuddin Sherif Targan playing a Nahat oud, but when I enlarged it I was not certain at all. For certain, there IS an
extraordinary oud by Nahat once owned by Targan on display in the Maulana mausoleum - museum.
I do not have good luck attaching pictures, so please bear with me if I need to make more than one attempt.
I have a request, some of you readers tend to go way off track with digressions about non-oud matters in this forum, so some focus would be
appreciated if anyone notices this and responds! Many thanks! - Daniel O'Donnell in Portland Oregon
