Strings for my reduced price Turunz oud

danieletarab - 4-11-2014 at 07:09 AM

Dear members,
I own a REDUCED PRICE arabic oud from Usta Faruk Turunz.
As you know it has a 58.5 string lenght (C tuning)
At the moment I am using PYRAMID orange label on it: they sound good but the strings are quite "loose": in other words, they have quite a low tension.
I would like to try an higher tension.
Do you have any C arabic strings set to suggest for higher tension?

I agree with MAtthias, this is a great set of string for your oud, Though I prefer to have a lighter tension for the first and second courses.
You may have to open up slightly the bridge hole for the second courses with Matthias set.

Thanks a lot mr Matthias and mr Franck!
I wouldn't like to open up the hole. I don't know how to do it and I would prefer to leave the oud as it is. Are you sure I would really need to do it with the set Matthias suggested? What does Matthias think about it?

I agree with Franck here. This set is almost exactly what I use on my 59cm oud except with .625 c' and .775 g (or PVF .52 and .70).
These are great strings.

The set listed has a very heavy gg course, it's quite possible that Turunz didn't make the second course hole big enough—standard Turkish sets use a much thinner string, about .62 PVF or .725 nylon for that course.

I never saw it and really cannot imagine that someone is doing a string hole at the bridge thinner than 1 mm. So the strings I suggested should go through the holes without any problem.
I drill my hole with 1.1 - 1.2 mm

Best regards
