The bowl is made from Indian Rosewood and Walnut. After tuning it, I realized the strings were a little too high tension, so lowered it them by 1/2 step, and it rang like a bell! Amazing tone and playability. The action is amazing, it plays like honey! Once I figure out the right set of strings for it, I am sure it will sound even more amazing.

Many thanks to Walid and Ronny!

Thanks Sam! The Bashir by Foad Jihad is
a oud from the Iraqi tradition and the sound is there after.

What you say about lowering the pitch a semitone is exactly what I do and also Munir Bashir did it. The sound is very different with a lower pitch and the oud do sound more ¨oud¨ I don't think lute instruments were originally designed for our modern concert pitch of 440 or higher.

I'll give you the calculations Shamma and Khalife have on their Bashir ouds.

Many thanks to Walid and Ronny!

Our pleasure Sam:D

Does Foad Jihad make ouds for Naseer Shamma?

Very nice oud by the way.....

Hey Sam,

I must have missed this when you posted it awhile back. Congrats man on a killer oud. I like Mr. Fouad's ouds very much. I saw and played Ghassan Bashir's oud, and it was great. It wasn't a Bashir style, but the oud was clean and sounded awesome. Congrats again man.

Take care,
Mike

No, Naseer's main oud is by Yaroud Fadel. He do have Fawzy ouds and the new 8 course model but for concerts and recordings he use Yaroub's Bashir model.

Thanks for your congrats Mike, Allah Barik Feek!

Oudman, I send you an email.

After a week, I'm liking this oud even more. The only thing I need to do is restring it. Anyone tried Aquila strings on a Bashir oud? I am thinking of the Turskish set (becuase I prefer lower tension) tuned to arabic tuning. Any thoughts?

I recall seeing 2 of these ouds for sale.

Ronny, out of curiosity, is the otehr one still available?

samzayed - 12-28-2004 at 01:22 PM

FYI, mine wasn't one of those 2. It was actually shipped from Bahgdad via Syria. The ones Ronny and Walid are selling are made to order straight from Fuad's workshop
