I have a 1955 oud that is similar in style to a Georges Hanna Nahat with an electric pickup added. Would anybody know who this oud maker is?

I think you have a genuine Georges Hana Nahat. Label seems legit and the work is nicejamesissa2004 - 8-4-2014 at 10:47 PM
I sure hope so! However, I had a few look at it. At first glance it looks like
a Nahat but I was told the Rosette is not typical of "Georgy" and the circular holes are not as smooth (more "blocky" than circular). I also own a
genuine 1956 "Georgy" and this is what the label looks like and pictures:

In my opinion, you described this instrument correctly as a replica.
Excuse me your highness, but this is not even a replica.
A REPLICA is a copy closely resembling the original by its shape, appearance and some - if not all - charactaristics of the original, while this oud
does not resemble any GHN's I ever saw !

Nah, this cannot be the work of any Nahat we know.bulerias1981 - 8-5-2014 at 04:05 PM

My apologies, I am far from an expert on this.topic but I must say it is one of the pitfalls of using an iPhone to browse. I stand corrected and also
I agree that it's not real. Could be a nice sounding old oud still

Probably sounds good. I don't play... My collection I inherited from my father. This particular oud belonged to my dad's best friend who was a popular
oud player - Khamis El Fino Ali. He put his picture inside up near the side. I have a feeling he used this oud on stage, hence the added electric
pickup. I wonder if this would add any additional value...
Anyways, if anyone happens to know who's label that is that would be very helpful in determining it's value..
Thanks for everyone's responses Greg - 8-6-2014 at 07:37 AM

Two things Alfaraby:
1/ I think most people understood what the original poster meant when he used the word "replica." Rather than get get bogged down in semantics as you
appear to want to do, I simply confirmed that, in my opinion, this was not an original Nahat. I think that you own Nahats, but you are not the only
one. And any of us that do, could reasonably quickly identify that this does not appear to have been made by any member of the Nahat family.
2/ I hope that your reference to me as "your highness" was not meant as a slight. As all long standing members would know, when I post on these
forums, I do so with the same status as every other member. If your comment was meant as a slight, I can assure you that it was one that I found to be
particularly offensive.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. I was trying to be respectful to the administrator.
It seems like "humor" is conceived differently by different cultures, especially when made by whom English is his third language.
Therefore I was misunderstood. No offense whatsoever has crossed my mind. On the contrary; I have great respect to the forum and to his administrators
and members.
On the other hand, my post was supposed to explain that this's not a Nahat replica, as I understand what replica means. I've read much (starting
here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Replica) on what REPLICA means prior to posting my last post, in order to avoid being "bogged down
in semantics" !
Sorry for this unfortunate controversy, I should have kept myself away from, right from the very outset.
Yours indeed
