I have a few of those hardcases. You may still need to use a rolled up hand towel under the neck to avoid the tip of the pegbox from resting on the bottom of the case. Also a rolled up bath towel making a 'U' shape at the bottom to better support the bowl.
If you are checking in the oud, put 2 or 4 tissue packs on the outer periphery of the face so the bridge is not the only thing contacting the lid when moving around. I have checked in ouds like that several times - no problem at all.

I have two of these cases also, and they're very nice.

Why would it be necessary to "use a rolled up hand towel under the neck to avoid the tip of the pegbox from resting on the bottom of the case." The case is pretty padded, and being that ouds tend to be very light, what is the problem with the pegbox resting on the bottom of the case? I assume the vast majority of the weight of the oud is on the bowl anyway, right?

from what I know the biggest issue on a oud case is that the pegbox doesn't touch the bottom of the case.

this part has for sure to be in the air.

this is the words of iannis seremetis which build oud case 10 years now (or more...)
