Hello fellas. hope everyone is doing well.
When tunning my oud,.. I came to think about something that I couldnt find in the forums.

so here is my question: when tunning a oud should you tense up the string and apply more tension untill you reach the disiered note?.. or tense up and above the note and release some tension untill the note is reached.??
Do you guys find this make a difference in the sound?
I sometimes tune one string tensing up and the other going down in tension. And althouh they show up has the same note on the tuner. they sound different. And please let me know witch way is the best way!!
thanks again Samir:buttrock:

I would be careful not to tension it too much above. But going up then tuning down would stretch the strings. When I install a new set of strings on mine, I started tuning it 1/2 a step higher than desired for a week and then tuning down to desired because I think it helps break in the new set quicker. However I aim to tune up to the note when I am tuning.

Samir - you may already know this, but just in case:

Be careful with the winding at the bridge end, as if you use a different number of or different direction for windings for strings in a pair you'll guarantee yourself out-of-tune notes, all the time!
