this looks to be a beautifully made oud. does anyone recognize the maker?(see photos) The fact that it is acoustic would not mean that it sounds
inferior when not amplified..?

yes Mahmoud Haddad, a well known Damascus oud maker. you can find info on him doing a search.
The oud looks like it needs a bit of attention (missing inlays etc...) but it should sound good. Also looks like the rosewood pegs aren't original but
they look well installed.

It appears to have been worked on by Viken Najarian, who perhaps installed the pickup. Those are his rosettes, they are not original. I would ask
Najarian about this oud and what work he did on it, I am sure he would remember.

I repaired an instrument by Mahmoud Haddad a couple years ago, here is the one I worked on.. The bowl was in pieces, cracks all over the soundboard,
did a neck reset, replaced the pegs and the nut! The other issue I didn't address because the customer didn't want to is the fingerboard was really
narrow for 6 courses.
