Looking for an arabic oud in Germany

awad18 - 3-4-2015 at 11:13 AM

Hello everyone! :)

I'm looking to buy my first oud, I have no experience with the instrument itself but I have some experience with the guitar.
Would it be better to buy a used one in which case I could get a good quality oud for a lower price? My budget is around 400 EUR
I also wanted to ask what you guys think about this online Jordanian shop. http://feesheh.com/

From what I've read and what I've been told I guess I shouldn't buy an arabic oud without trying it out first, but there are very few shops in Germany that sell such kind of instruments. Maybe I should wait until I go to the United Arab Emirates because there should be places that sell it there.

Hi awad 18:wavey:

have you seen the "MauriceOudShop"banner on top of every forumpage? The ouds look and sound good in the videos, and they are around your pricerange. And surely, Mike would not have linked the shop on his page if the ouds are "bad".
If you buy a used one, you cant mostly "try before buy" without travelling around a lot, which raises the cost.

I think even in the UAE cheap ouds are bad and good ones are very expensive.

I wish you good luck with finding your first "beauty".

Cheers
Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Yes I've seen the MauriceOudShop ad , I'm actually planning to go for an apprentice oud from his website when I don't find any better options locally.
Thanks for the reply.

Mahmoud

How much do you like to spend? I have some good instruments from my own work. If you are not so far, visit me.

Hallo Matthias,

My budget is quite low since I am still a university student it is around 400 euro. I have visited your website before and your work looks very nice. I am in Karlsruhe.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

try http://www.oud-werkstatt.de . You will see by yourself that his ouds are just works of art, and you can have a chat with him about your budget. He is a forum member (by the name Fritz) and his ouds have been praised no end by everyone who's seen them. I'm having an oud made by him for the summer. I haven't got a large budget to spend, but the man is most accomodating and you can surely find something that suits you.
But my advice to you is: avoid so-called "beginner's ouds". Better maybe add that extra 100-150 Euros and have a decent oud that will accompany you for a long time, with a nice action and a good sound, than spend little money and find yourself lumbered with an unplayable piece of wood.....
Good luck with your search

Hi Giorgioud,
Thanks for the advice, I checked their website and their ouds really do look very well made, you can always trust Germans when it comes to these kind of things. I completely agree with you on those beginner ouds though, they sound terrible.

Kind Regards,
Mahmoud

Hi,
Did you find your Oud.

I have my Turkish Oud (very nice semi-pro) with greate condition and not far from your budget. Oud is in The Netherland so should be possible to meet and to test if you like.
Let me know if you still need it.
