Today I changed the strings on my Turkish tuned Türünz oud to the D'addario J95 set, based on Mavrothi's recommendation, and they are my favorite
strings thus far. The tuning I'm using is 'E, A, B, e, a, d', and I also purchased the D'addario rectified nylon (.71mm and .56mm) in place of the
standard nylons. The sound is GREAT and the tension is perfect for me.
I had previously tried Kürschner, Pyramid Lute, and Musicaravan (Necati Celik) strings on this oud. All of them sounded good, but thus far I think
the D'addario sound the best.
Have any of you with Türünz ouds also tried these strings?
Soon I'm going to give them a try on my Arabic tuned Türünz...franck leriche - 3-15-2015 at 09:40 AM
I tried them, but didn't like at all, i found them absolutely unbalanced, not well in tune, and didn't last long.
But it don't mean they're not good, i'm sure it's a very personal matter....
I found my happiness with Yurdal Tokcan set with pyramid lute strings.
They are a bit soft in sound, but one can have a stronger mizrap attack.
The strange thing with the pyramid lute string is that it takes quite long to sound good when they are new, but they really last very long.Microber - 3-15-2015 at 12:15 PM

I have the same feeling with the Pyramid lute string.
Way too bright in the beginning !
But they are still the best for me.DavidJE - 3-15-2015 at 12:45 PM
Franck/Microber,
Did you guys try these on Turkish or Arabic tuned ouds?
I'm waiting a little while for the strings to settle in on my Turkish tuned oud, since I just put them on yesterday, and will try them on the Arabic
one soon. Right now I still have Pyramid Lute strings on the Arabic tuned oud, so it will be interesting to hear the difference, being that it will
be one step lower and accordingly lower tension. On my Turkish tuned oud I went from Kürschner to D'addario.Omar Al-Mufti - 3-15-2015 at 01:41 PM
Hi everyone,
I got that D'addario set from David........I tried it on my Abu Alaa oud which I was about to sell......it is 58.5 cm with CC cc tuning.
I love it........it sounds great now.
This is the second good experience with lower end string sets. I have a very good experience with Daniel Mari on 60 cm ouds.
Apparently low tension works fine with me....sound and playability.
Next time I meet with David we will bring the two ouds with D'addario strings.....we will give you feedback definately franck leriche - 3-16-2015 at 01:55 AM
I tried them on the turkish one.DavidJE - 3-16-2015 at 05:51 AM
Thanks Franck. Maybe it is just a matter of personal preference, or maybe you somehow had a bad set, but as they settle in I am continuing to really
like them.
