I'm a long time guitar player who owns a couple of high end guitars and I'm looking to try my hand at the Oud. But I'd like an instrument with made
of solid quality tonewoods that sounds great.
Would someone with some experience reply back on their assessment of the following ouds?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/YAWE-ARAB-STRING-INSTRUMENT-ROSE-WOOD-MAPLE...
and...

these are two that draw my attention tone-wise.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Of these two, I would go with the Maurice oud. It's made be a known luthier with a good reputation and consequently will certainly be easier to sell
should you decide the oud isn't for you (you sound unsure in your post). The Turkish oud has no maker mentioned, and based on these choices I assume
you want an Arabic oud so it probably wouldn't be the right choice anyway.
But in this price range, you might have some other options as well, particularly if you look at used instruments.
Not to discourage you from the Maurice oud, which will be a nice instrument, but I always encourage people to see the instrument in person before
buying. If we knew where you lived, we could provide some suggestions maybe.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'm in the NYC metropolitan area if you can suggest some places where I can play some quality Ouds. I totally agree
that it's better to try them out yourself and would welcome the opportunity.

You might have some options in NY. I am in Brooklyn and know a lot of folks in town, maybe someone has an oud. Send me an email at info (at)
