Hi, I am in Ankara off and on for next 5 months. I would like to buy an Oud. Nothing too expensive but not a toy. Anyone here from ankara and
selling or have advice?
Thanks!

Check out Sahibinden:

Also you can contact member Ali San on this forum.
He doesn't speak english so you need turkish or if you write in english, he will ask someone to translate.
What's your price range?

You should go to Ender Göktepe
He produces probably the best ouds in Turkey
His ouds are a bit pricey but they worth every cent
Cheers

I think you will need to share your budget to help the others recommend something for you.
Try contacting Yildirim Palabiyik to see what they have. They are on Facebook and Instagram

Good luck.

I had been vaguely thinking about a bowed tanbur - Degirmenli's are expensive! I wonder why so much more than the plectrum ones? (The construction
is very different, but I'm not sure why it needs to be).

I did not know that Degirmenli is also building tanburs. A friend of mine just bought recently a bowed tanbur from "Klasik Müzik Evi" which I have
mentioned above. He is quite happy with it. The bowl is also from wood and the soundboard from leather.
You can see the tanburs here: http://www.klasikmuzikevi.com.tr/en/index.php?option=com_content&am...
