Iranian Oud players have a problem playing Dastgah Shur on C, or F, or Dastgah Segah on A koron.
When Hossein Behroozinia plays a concert and the singer needs Shur on C etc, he will tune the whole instrument down a whole step.
I have found an easy solution, a completely new Oud tuning.
Usually I use CFADgc (standard Arabic tuning). Persian players use this tuning when playing Dastgah Mahur or Rast Panjgah on F, or Bayati Tork on Bb.
So the new tuning is C F Bb D g c (low to high). This creates a new 3rd interval in the tuning and allows for easier finger access to D
half-flat/koron.
I've been playing around with this all day and it's a great compromise if you don't want to tune an Oud a whole step down to play these keys easier.
I've been looking for a solution like this for years.

Awesome! I love the idea of tuning only one string rather than the whole OUD tuned down!
Maybe you could upload a sample using vocaroo!
