Hi. I live in sweden and i´ve just found an oud to buy.
It´s quite old and used so i want to put new strings on it when i get it. But what kind of strings?? I hear i can use regular Dáddarios nylon. And thoes dubble strings are they tuned to the same note? or is it as a 12string guitar where one string is an octave above the other?? The oud seems to be very highly tuned to. Is that true? Higher then a guitar.

Hi Henrik,
Here are some sites for oud tuning and exercises:

http://www.oudcafe.com/
http://www.oud.gr/
http://www.adibsamaan.tk/

You can order strings from:

http://www.labella.com/index.asp
http://www.aquilacorde.com/home1.htm

This is a shareware software to tune the oud:
http://www.cerlsoundgroup.org/cgi-bin/aptuner/apmain.html

Good luck Henrik,

Hatem

First you must find out the mensur and wheter the oud is Arabic or Turkish made. The are no shops here in Sweden that have quality oud strings. You can find strings at some ethnics shopes but the quality sucks. Let us know more about your oud first. ;)
